When he’s not debating the finer points of Wonder Woman in film, James Cameron is also working on a sequel to some movie called Avatar. You might have heard of it. Well it looks like the Avatar sequels have officially, “no really, we’re not joking this time” started production. As in they’re actually shooting, probably as you’re reading this.
There’s no less than four more Avatar film’s coming. Avatar 2 will come out Dec. 18th, 2020. Avatar 3 on Dec. 17, 2021, and then we’ll get a break from blue aliens for a few years until Avatar 4 in 2024. And if you’re not ready to tap out by then there will be an Avatar 5 in 2025.
Phew. There’s a whole lot of Avatar. Apparently the sequels will center more on Jake Sully’s children, the uh … Avakids.
OK, ok. Do we really want to revisit the world of Avatar for four more movies? We don’t really know the answer, but lets also look at it this way … Cameron has a pretty good track record with sequels. Aliens is by far the best Alien sequel. Terminator 2: Judgement Day has a fair case for being perhaps even better than the breakout hit original. Say what you want about Cameron, but the man knows how to deliver a sequel.
Cameron is also getting back involved with the Terminator franchise (with Linda Hamilton to boot), so suffice to say he’s got a pretty full plate these days. We’ll keep you updated on developments for both franchises in the future, stay tuned.
